The Real Talk About Mindset: Growing Through the Grind

I’ve been thinking a LOT about mindset lately, but not as a ‘fitness coach’, but as a fellow human who has approximately 73 tabs open in her brain at all times, and who sometimes wonders why eating healthy requires so much emotional strength.

Jumping right in… Let’s talk about what really goes into keeping a positive mindset—especially when life feels like a never-ending to-do list with a side of “Are you kidding me right now?

Because let’s be real: Some days, the heaviest thing we lift isn’t a dumbbell—it’s our own exhaustion, stress, and those nagging thoughts telling us we’re not doing enough (spoiler: we totally are).

As I sit here typing this, I’m in my home office—the same space where Neil and I plan for the future of our business, write out big dreams on whiteboards, and, yes, occasionally have existential crises over spreadsheets. (If you’ve ever stared at numbers so long they stopped making sense, you get it.)

But here’s something I’ve learned: Having a strong mindset doesn’t mean always feeling strong.

Strength Isn’t Always Loud

Sometimes strength looks like crushing your workout, and sometimes it looks like dragging yourself out of bed even though you’d rather stay wrapped up like a burrito, snuggled deep in the covers.

Sometimes it’s hitting your protein goals, and sometimes it’s just not losing it when your dog vomits on the rug five minutes before you need to leave the house. (this just happened this week…)

And honestly? Take the wins! The big, the small – take them!

Here’s what’s been helping me, and maybe it’ll help you too:

  1. Progress Isn’t Perfect  Just like in our fitness journey, progress in life isn’t linear. Some days you crush it and have the best workout ever, and other days you struggle with weights that felt light last week. The same applies to our mindset. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s persistence + grace. Even if that means showing up in a messy bun, running on fumes, and hoping no one notices you put your leggings on inside out.
  2. Community Matters More Than We Think  When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I think about each of our members, and see each of them showing up—on the days they feel unstoppable and on the days their friends had to bribe them with Rize Coffee to get here. And that? That’s what inspires me most. Because let’s be real—taking care of yourself isn’t always easy. Life is busy, motivation fades, and sometimes just putting on workout clothes feels like an accomplishment (been there). But every time you walk through those doors, you’re proving to yourself that you are stronger than your excuses and the chaos of everyday life. And the best part? You’re not doing it alone. We’re in this together, figuring it out as we go, cheering each other on—even when ‘showing up’ looks like surviving on caffeine and blind optimism.☕
  3. Faith as a Foundation  I’ll be transparent with you – my relationship with God is my anchor. When I feel like I’m running on empty but there’s still so much to do, that’s when I lean hardest into my faith. I don’t have it all figured out (not even close!), but I will trust that God has a plan bigger than my to-do lists. Each early morning, each late night – it’s all part of the story He’s writing for me.

The Secret About Mindset

Mindset isn’t about faking positivity or pretending everything is easy. It’s about shifting the way we see things. Like, instead of saying:

  • I have to [manage our new brand transition/follow up with leads/bookkeep/create reels for facebook/hang new signs → I GET to have a business that changes lives and care for the space they workout in.
  • I have to take 2-3 hours out of my day to get Chesca (my granddaughter) ready for school → I GET to be part of this precious little human’s life (even when she changes her outfit 4 times in a row).
  • I have to work out even when I’m exhausted and my to-do list is giving me serious anxiety → I GET to move my body, because it’s showing up for me even on the tough days.

See the shift? It’s like taking that ugh energy and turning it into okay yes, this truly is a privilege.

My message to you? Keep growing through the grind. Showing up for yourself means showing yourself grace on your hardest days. Fitfam, hang in there and I hope this message resonated with you. Drop your thoughts below, I’d love to hear how you’re flipping the script! xo
